Copyright Restrictions Policy
The Amarillo Public Library is making these digital images of original works available in accordance with
the guidelines of the copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code
http://www.copyright.gov/title17) and the Fair Use clause of the
1976 Copyright Act, (http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html
and http://www.know-law-now.com/Copyright/Fair_use.htm)
for non-profit and educational purposes, such as research, teaching, and private study. For these limited
purposes, you may reproduce (print, download, or make copies) these images without prior permission. If a user
makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,”
that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
For uses other than those outlined above, the user may need to obtain permission from the copyright holder.
Determination of who holds the copyright, and any restrictions that may apply, is often difficult or impossible
to learn due to the nature of historical photograph collections. Although the digital images in this collection
may not include any statement about the copyright status of the original works, the U.S. Copyright Act
nevertheless provides that such works may be protected by copyright. Their presence on this site does not imply
that they are in the public domain or that the copyright is owned by the Amarillo Public Library.
Where the library does not own the copyright of the material from its holdings, the staff cannot give formal
copyright permission for its use. It is the user's responsibility to determine the copyright holder, and to
ensure that any necessary copyright clearances have been obtained. The library will try to provide information,
where known, about the possible copyright owner of a particular image on its web site, but ultimately that
determination rests with the user. The Amarillo Public Library assumes no responsibility for infraction of
copyright laws committed by users.
