July 1-31st
The Amarillo Public Library’s annual Xtreme Read program begins on Wednesday, July 1st. There are two main parts to the teen program, just as there are for the summer reading program.
- READ BOOKS, ENTER TO WIN FREE PRIZES. Participants must read 7 hours a week. After the teen has read seven hours for that week, he or she turns in a drawing slip to any branch and (s)he is entered into a drawing for that week’s prize. Some of the prizes offered: gift cards to Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, and Walmart. There is also a grand prize at the end of the program in which all participants will be entered. The grand prize will be a digital camera.
- XTREME EVENTS AT THE LIBRARY. Every week there will be something fun at one of the Public Library branches. Events include making picture frames, creating magnetic poetry, tie-dyeing, and making rubber band cars for additional prizes.
Readers between the ages of 12-18 may sign up at any one of the five libraries beginning July 1st and may enter a drawing slip each week until July 31st. Please join XTREME READ and allow us to help you XPRESS YOUR INNER ARTIST!

Central Library Gets a New Look
The Central Library is being renovated for the first time in 30 years! The second floor, including the Genealogy collection, is currently closed to the public while work is taking place in that area. Central's collection of DVDs has been distributed to other Amarillo Public Library locations and videos are not currently available for check out through the Central Library. When renovations are complete, the second floor will serve as a "quiet place" for serious research, and high traffic materials such as fiction and media will be located on the first floor. We appreciate your patience as we work to make the library better. For more pictures of our progress, please check out the library's page on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/amarillopubliclibrary
